The Livingston County United Way has recognized area students for their efforts to produce a new logo for the ninth annual Day of Caring, which is scheduled for Aug. 18.

High school students from Livingston County were invited to submit a logo design to give the Day of Caring a fresh, new look. The winning concept was then incorporated into a final graphic to be used in upcoming marketing pieces.

The logo design competition was sponsored by NorthCom, a print-and-marketing company owned by attorney and businessman Evan C. Anderson of Howell. The winners, selected by the publicity and education committee of the Livingston County United Way, were:

In first place was Emmalie Quella from Hartland High School, who was presented with a $100 check.

In second place was Hannah Bihlmeyer from Kensington Woods High School, who was presented with a check for $75.

Third place was a team effort by Drew Wagner, Hailey Pleshakov, Briana Tamas, Andrew Wilkinson, Alex Mitchell and Sam Stark. Each received $10 for the effort.

The competition was structured to emphasize to students the importance of doing research about the organization, the necessity of brand marketing, working with deadlines and working to the customer's satisfaction.

"As with anything we do with our youth, we want students to have a hands-on learning opportunity," said Nancy Rosso, executive director of the United Way. "Through this competition, the students learned skill sets that they'll be able to apply when they enter the working world. We are very grateful for all their hard work."
