Awestruck by talent of county art students

Livingston Press & Argus
April 30, 2010

We would like to express our gratitude to the art teachers of Livingston County schools for taking the time to select student work and deliver the finished pieces to The Opera House for display. For the 11th year, the student art exhibit Got Art was an overwhelming success, showcasing more than 1,100 pieces of art and having almost 2,000 visitors in 11 days.

Art teachers each selected 25 pieces from their schools. Participating schools were from Brighton Area Schools' Brighton High School, Maltby Intermediate School, Hawkins Elementary School, Hilton Elementary School, Hornung Elementary School, Lindbom Elementary School and Spencer Elementary School; Fowlerville Community Schools' Fowlerville High School, Fowlerville Junior High School, H.T. Smith Elementary School and Kreeger Elementary School; Pinckney Community Schools' Pathfinder School and Navigator School; Hartland Consolidated Schools' Hartland High School, Hartland Middle School at Ore Creek, Hartland Farms Intermediate School, Creekside Elementary School, Lakes Elementary School, Village Elementary School; Howell Public Schools' Howell High School, Freshman Campus, Highlander Way Middle School, Three Fires Middle School, Hutchings Elementary School, Northwest Elementary School, Southwest Elementary School, Challenger Elementary School, Voyager Elementary School, Southeast Elementary School, and Latson Elementary School; Kensington Woods High School in Genoa Township; St. Joseph Elementary School and St. Joseph Middle School; in Howell; and St. Patrick Elementary School and St. Patrick Middle School in Brighton.

We would also like to thank our student and adult volunteers for the hours of supervision this display commands. Many students, parents, administrators, teachers and visitors enjoyed the talent our young people produced and had on display at The Opera House in Howell during Youth Art Month for Michigan. We look forward to next year and hope to have more schools participate. Each year we are awestruck at the talent the teachers encourage from our young people in Livingston County.
