Local High School Collecting Pop Bottles for "Green Winter"

November 21, 2009
WHMI

Students at a local high school are looking to collect thousands of pop bottles for an eco-friendly project. Students at Kensington Woods High School are taking part in a project titled “Green Winter” in which they’ll create a green house using recycled materials where the school can plant a garden and grow fresh produce for the school to promote healthy living. Art teacher Jessie Pratt tells WHMI the idea comes from a senior student who is conducting a research project on how gardening can benefit students with learning disabilities. She says this is a great opportunity for service learning and doing something positive in the community. Bins have been placed at Kensington Woods High School and Pratt say’s they’re looking to collect at least 2,000 pop bottles but would also appreciate monetary or lumber donations, since the green house will have a wooden base. Donations will be accepted through February, at which time the structure would be built so the planting process could begin in March. (JM)
