Rogers salutes stellar scholars - Distinguished high school seniors get Congressional Medal of Merit

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Brighton, honored a group of distinguished high school seniors with the Congressional Medal of Merit in a special ceremony May 9 at the state Capitol in Lansing.

Graduating seniors are nominated for the honor by their schools based upon criteria established by the congressman. All 50 high schools in Michigan's 8th Congressional District are invited to participate. The honorees have demonstrated exemplary citizenship and academic excellence throughout their high school careers.

Livingston County student honorees are Lisa Bergeron from Pinckney Community High School, Christopher Parsons from Fowlerville High School, Shelby Zastrow from Kensington Woods High School, James Conwell from Brighton High School, Zachary Grifka from Howell High School and Lexee Longwell from Hartland High School.

"It is an honor and a privilege to recognize such outstanding students who reflect well upon their schools and communities," Rogers said. "Their academic achievements and commitment to citizenship are strong indicators of their future success in life."

 

Top Mid-Michigan High School Graduates to Receive Congressional Medal of Merit

Washington- U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, MI-08, on Monday, May 9, will honor a group of distinguished high school seniors with the Congressional Medal of Merit on Monday afternoon in a special ceremony at the Michigan State Capitol.

Honorees from the graduating class of 2011 will receive their medals and certificates of recognition in the Capitol’s third-floor House Appropriations Room at 3 p.m. Rogers will be available for brief one-on-one interviews at 2:45 p.m.

Graduating seniors are nominated for the honor by their schools based upon criteria established by the congressman. All 50 schools in Michigan’s Eighth Congressional District are invited to participate.

Each student has demonstrated exemplary citizenship and academic excellence throughout their high school careers.

"It is an honor and a privilege to recognize such outstanding students who reflect well upon their schools and communities," Rogers said. "Their academic achievements and commitment to citizenship are strong indicators of their future success in life."
